Men's Cross Country Claims Title at GPAC Preview

The Dordt University men's cross country team dominated the field at the Red Raider / GPAC Preview meet held today at Landsmeer Golf Club in Orange City.

Defender runners claimed the top four spots individually en route to a team score of 16 points, one shy of a perfect score. Northwestern was second with 49, followed by Mount Marty (81) and Briar Cliff (116).

Jacob Vander Plaats came across the finish line first with an 8K time of 26:20 and was the top Defender runner for the second straight meet. Dordt's next three runners, Thaniel Schroeder, Davis Tebben and Eric Steiger, were the next to finish and were separated by less than a second.

Joe Anderson placed sixth (26:33) and was followed by Nicolas Veldhorst (26:35); Aidan Vorster (27:08) and Peter Shippy (27:08) were also in the top 10 for Dordt. The Defenders had a 1-5 split of 13 seconds and 48 seconds for 1-7.

  • "The men followed up their third place finish at the Augustana Twilight with a solid performance, taking the top four spots and scoring 16 points in route to the win," stated Dordt Head Coach Nate Wolf. "The men had a conservative race plan that saw our top 15 within just a few seconds of each other at the 2K mark. It was fun to see the large pack of Defender men working together for the first third of the meet and that really helped set the tone for the pack of our men as we placed 13 in the top 16 of the meet."
