Baseball Travels Friday, Hosts Senior Day Saturday

The Dordt Defender baseball team will be playing a pair of doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday, April 16 and 17 against Briar Cliff on Friday and Hastings on Saturday. The Friday baseball games will start at 4:00 pm and the Saturday contests will begin at 1:00.
Briar Cliff enters play on Friday with a 23-12 record and a 7-9 GPAC mark after going 1-3 against Concordia last weekend.
The Chargers are led by Jared Sitzmann’s 37 hits and he has 24 runs batted in with a .359 batting average. Jake Federico is batting .313 with 36 hits and has seven doubles. Jake Allen has 25 hits and is batting .301 and shares team honors with seven homeruns. Harrison Jestel has seven homeruns as well with 25 runs batted in.
Jacob Wesselmann is 5-0 on the mound in 53 innings pitched and he has a team high 66 strikeouts with a .287 earned run average. Dalen Blair is 4-2 with a 4.50 earned run average and has 51 strikeouts in 42 innings. Nicholas Cole is 3-0 in seven starts and Houston Hawkins is 4-2 in 38 innings of work and has 40 strikeouts.
Hastings is 9-20 overall and 7-9 in the GPAC after going 3-1 last weekend against Morningside.
Camden Brichacek is batting .378 with 34 hits and Julio Sanchez is batting .321 with 26 hits. Tino Zach and Ryder Ghidotti have 33 and 28 hits each and are batting .314 and .292. The Broncos have eight different players with one homerun each.
Gates Johnson is 2-4 this season with 40 innings pitched and 28 strikeouts. Josh Merithew is 2-3 with 44 strikeouts and Devin Wagoner is 2-3 with 42 strikeouts.
Dordt is 11-23 this season with a 4-12 GPAC mark after a 1-3 weekend against Northwestern last weekend.
Logan Cline is batting .442 with 53 hits and has five homeruns with 26 runs batted in and 24 stolen bases. John Emerson is batting .412 with 10 doubles and Chase Edwards is batting .345 with eight doubles and four homeruns and a team high 41 runs batted in.
Gyengju Kim is 4-3 with a 3.49 earned run average and 73 strikeouts in 49 innings. Nick Yeager is 3-3 with 28 strikeouts in 10 relief appearances and Luke Turner has pitched 37 innings and has 39 strikeouts.
Briar Cliff’s Wesselman averages 6.66 innings pitched per game and ranks 9th.
Hastings’s Devon Wagner allows opponents .192 batting average which ranks 26th lowest in the NAIA.
Cline is 5th in the NAIA in stolen bases with 24 and 22nd in batting average with .442.
Kim is 38th in innings pitched per game with 6.12.
Dordt is scheduled to go to Mount Marty on April 23 and 24 in Yankton, South Dakota for four GPAC games.
