(Wednesday, April 7; Sioux Center, Iowa) Ben Loverude, a senior at Des Moines Christian High School (Iowa), has announced his intention to attend Dordt and join the Defender basketball program.
“We are very excited to have Ben join our program. He is a versatile player and can play almost any position on the floor. He is an excellent defender and scores in many different ways. He will thrive in an up-tempo style of play. We look forward to his growth in his faith, as a player, and as a leader,” said Dordt basketball coach Brian Van Haaften.
Loverude is a 6-7 guard who averaged 13.4 points per game with 2.5 assists and 3.5 rebounds in helping Des Moines Christian to a state tournament berth in 2021. He earned first-team all-conference and all-substate honors and was named the team’s Defensive Player of the Year. Loverude averaged 11.4 points per game as a junior and had 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game while earning second-team all-conference honors with all-substate accolades as well as the FACE Award (Faith, Athleticism, Coachability, Effort).
“I chose Dordt University because of the culture the coaches have established in the basketball program. The coaches have gone out of their way to have a relationship with me on and off the court. Dordt also allowed me to have the opportunity to grow in my faith, surrounded by friends, teammates and mentors who will hold me accountable,” said Loverude.
