Baseball Hosts Pair Of Doubleheaders This Weekend


The Dordt Defender baseball team will be hosting a pair of doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday, April 2 and 3 against Morningside and Jamestown. The Friday baseball games will start at 3:00 pm and the Saturday contests will begin at 12:00. 


Due to water damage affecting the Dordt Network at Open Space Park on Thursday morning video coverage is in jeopardy. If video is available the link will be here.

Morningside is 13-18 this season and 5-3 in the GPAC with three wins over Mount Marty and a win each over Northwestern and Dakota Wesleyan.

Hunter Hope is batting .345 this season with 39 hits and 19 runs batted in. Wade Canaday is batting .310 and Michael Boomgaarden is at .310 with nine doubles and 10 stolen bases. Carter Kratz and Jordan Pierce each have two homeruns.

Caleb Thompson is 5-2 on the mound with 39 innings pitched and has 38 strikeouts with a 5.08 earned run average. Wade Canaday is 2-4 with 41 innings pitched with 40 strikeouts and Justin Lottman is 2-5 in 32 innings with 28 strikeouts.

Jamestown is 18-10 this season with a 5-3 GPAC mark. The Jimmies have a win over Hastings and have won four conference games in a row over Midland and Northwestern.

Grant Okawa is batting .362 with two homeruns and seven runs batted in and a team high 22 runs scored. Brice Foster has a pair of homeruns with a .351 batting average and two homeruns and Lincoln Trujillo is batting .322 with three homeruns and 13 runs batted in. Luke Shekeryk is batting .295 with seven homeruns.

Austin Pesicka is 3-1 on the mound in 10 relief appearances while Dru Fitz is 4-0 with 39 innings pitched and Kensaku Akiya is has 35 innings pitched and has 37 strikeouts which is second to Fitz’s 43.


Dordt is 9-17 this season with a 2-6 GPAC mark.  Dordt lost to Concordia in a pair of doubleheaders last weekend.

Logan Cline is batting .415 with 39 hits and has four homeruns with 21 runs batted in and 18 stolen bases. John Emerson is batting .400 with five doubles and Chase Edwards is batting .363 with seven doubles and four homeruns. Nick Hamilton has seven homeruns and 24 runs batted in and he is batting .325.  

Nick Yeager is 3-1 with a 3.00 earned run average in seven relief appearances and Gyengju Kim is 3-3 with a 4.37 earned run average and 56 strikeouts in 35 innings. Luke Turner has pitched 29 innings and has 31 strikeouts.


The Defenders will host Northwestern on April 9 and 10 in a pair of conference doubleheaders in their next contests.
