Defender Football In Ratings For Third Straight Weekly Poll

(Wednesday, March 31; Sioux Center, Iowa) The third poll of the NAIA football season has been released and the Dordt Defender football team holds at no. 18 for the third poll in a row.

The Defenders totaled 153 points in the voting done by 18 coaches representing each of the conferences in the NAIA.  Dordt improved its record to a program best 8-2 with a 53-0 road win over Panhandle State University (Oklahoma) on Saturday, March 26.  The game was the first since Dordt had concluded the GPAC season in mid-November.

“In a year when football has looked different for so many schools, we are grateful to have played the games we have.  I’m so proud of this team for achieving a school record eight-win season and three consecutive shutouts.  Regardless of what happens with the playoff decisions, this team has been incredible dealing with months of uncertainty,” said Dordt football coach Joel Penner.

Dordt is three points behind Benedictine (Kansas) and 10 points behind Georgetown (Kentucky) in 17th and 16th respectively.

Teams have two more weekends to play regular season football this spring with the 16-team NAIA post-season field announced on April 11 at 6:00 pm.
