Defenders Host Track and Field Invite Thursday

Dordt will be hosting a track and field invite on Thursday, April 1.
Admission will be charged and spectators are asked to wear masks and practice social distancing from other groups.
Spectators are welcome. Masking is requested.

The Defenders competed at the Viking Relays at Grand View in Des Moines last Friday and had several top-10 finishes. The day was highlighted by Payton Mauldin winning the 400 meters in 48.61 and Cole Zevenbergen was third in 49.79.
Matthew Van Eps won the 800 in 1:52.66 and Trey Engen and Anthony Ghiorso were second and third in the 1500 meters in 4:03 and 4:05. Davis Tebbben led the 5000 meter finishers with a 15:01 and had Eric Steiger (3), Jacob Vander Plaats (4), Joe Anderson (5), Thaniel Schroeder (8) and Nic Veldhorst (9) in the top-10. The 4x400 team also claimed first in the field.
The women’s team was led by Anmarie Stuit’s win the 400 hurdles with a tie of 1:06 and Taylor Anema won the 5,000 in 17:54. Sarah De Haan claimed first in the high jump after clearing 5-2.5 and Paige Decker had a pair of thirds in the high jump and triple jump with 4-10.5 and 33-1.75 performances.
After significantly limiting entries for the NAIA National Indoor Meet it appears the outdoor qualifications will revert to the previous qualifying practice with set standards in place.

Northwestern is scheduled to host the Red Raider Open on Friday and Saturday, April 9 and 10. Dordt will send its distance runners to the NAIA National Track and Field Championship on April 9 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
