(Saturday, March 25; Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt Defender women’s volleyball team is no. 12 in the NAIA Coaches’ Poll released Wednesday, March 24.
Dordt is 14-5 after winning a pair of matches after resuming the season in mid-March. Dordt has wins over no. 22 Ottawa and no. 11 Grand View to its credit after finishing the GPAC season 11-5. Dordt is currently on an eight-match winning streak spanning the two semesters of action.
“The top-10 in the country is a tight pack of teams each with impressive resumes at this point in the season. The next 15 teams are trying to climb higher with each week that passes. Having improved one spot in this most recent poll is exciting as it further gives us optimism toward an NAIA National Tournament at-large bid to be announced April 11. We have never been able to control or influence the voting other than by winning important matches. Our two non-conference match victories in March have helped us stay relevant in the national conversations of this extended season. We now set our sights on the GPAC tournament and hosting a Midland team that beat us in the regular season,” said Dordt coach Chad Hanson.
The Defenders will open GPAC Tournament play on Saturday, April 4 at 7:00 pm against Midland. GPAC teams in the poll include—Jamestown (1), Northwestern (7), Concordia (10), Dordt (12), Midland (19), Dakota Wesleyan (RV) and Hastings (RV) . The next coaches’ poll will be announced on Wednesday, April 7 with the final poll scheduled for April 12 coinciding with the NAIA National Tournament field announcement. The poll is voted on by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences, Association of Independent Institutions and Unaffiliated Groups.
