Dordt Prepares to Host Christian Sports Summit

Dordt University is hosting the Game Changer Christian Sports Summit on June 4, 2021. A list of keynote speakers from former Seattle Seahawks quarterback Brock Huard to former volleyball Olympian Nancy Metcalf will provide perspective on Christian leadership in athletics.

In addition to the keynote sessions, smaller breakout sessions will occur where discussions on the parent and coach role, responsible social media usage, developing a Christian program, and mental health for athletes will take place.

"I hope the event helps guests to be sharper in what they do - to be more committed to Christian athletics, not just in the part of winning but also in doing it the right way. I think people can improve themselves professionally by coming and listening," said Craig Stiemsma, Chair of the Dordt Health and Human Performance Department.

Keynote speakers include Brock Huard, Wayne Simien, Brian Smith, Brian Bolt, Micah Parker, Nancy Metcalf, Rob Miller and Ron Brown. Speakers will focus on topics such as trust and using sport as a platform for living out the Christian faith.

"Some of the names we have will be able to bring out the value of sports, but also the value of doing it from a Christian perspective and in a Christian way," said Stiemsma.

This conference has been years in the making and has taken a collaborative effort to create. With the help of a steering committee and sponsors, the Game Changer Christian Sports Summit is ready for a successful day of learning and growing.

To register or to find more information about the event, visit dordt.edu/game-changer. Registration is $125 with a student price of $50 until May 1. The event will be held at Dordt's BJ Haan Auditorium.
