Women's Volleyball Up A Spot In Poll

(Friday, March 12; Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt Defender women’s volleyball team is no. 13 in the NAIA Coaches’ Poll released Wednesday, March 10.

Dordt posted a 12-5 mark in the fall and was 11-5 in the GPAC, finishing fourth in the GPAC regular season standings. The Defenders resume their season tonight when they host no. 24 Ottawa in one of two matches played before the GPAC post-season tournament begins on Saturday, April 3.

“With these spring weeks that pass and only part of the country playing competitive volleyball, this has been a surreal experience to wonder what each poll will reflect as we have no influence into it through our own competitive play.  Improving one position through the votes of the coaches does feel good.  However, we more importantly realize that these several weeks of competition ahead on our non-conference schedule will be our opportunities to further solidify what we hope to be an exciting April preparing for the NAIA National Tournament,” said Dordt volleyball coach Chad Hanson.

The Defenders currently have a March 23 match scheduled at no .7 Grand View. The Great Plains Athletic Conference has six teams in the poll—Jamestown (1), Northwestern (7), Concordia (10), Dordt (13), Midland (19) and Dakota Wesleyan (RV). The next coaches’ poll will be announced on March 10.  The poll is voted on by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences, Association of Independent Institutions and Unaffiliated Groups.
