Vander Plaats Named GPAC Indoor Track Athlete of the Year

(Friday, February 26; Sioux Center, Iowa) Honors for the 2021 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Indoor Track and Field season have been announced and Dordt’s Jacob Vander Plaats (Senior; Sioux Center, Iowa) has been named the Hauff Mid-America Sports Indoor Track and Field Male Athlete-of-the-Year.

Vander Plaats accounted for 24 points at the GPAC Championship hosted by Dordt on February 19-20 and was also named the Athlete-of-the-Meet. Vander Plaats won the mile in 4:18.93, finished second in the 3,000 meters in 8:54.15 and took third in the 1,000 meters in 2:33.40. He also claimed the same honor in 2020 after sweeping first in all three events.

Vander Plaats is scheduled to run at the NAIA National Championship on Thursday, March 4 in the 1,000 meters and the mile.
