Ospina Commits To Dordt

(Thursday, February 25; Sioux Center, Iowa) Juan Ospina, a student at Colegio Berchmans (Cali, Colombia), has announced his intention to attend Dordt and join the Defender soccer program.

“We have been impressed by Juan’s character during the recruitment process. We look forward to seeing him grow in his time at Dordt. We are excited to add Juan to our 2021 class!” said Dordt soccer coach Ryan Gresse.

Ospina scored four goals and had seven assists in 2020 and accounted for two goals and six assists in 2019.  He was named the most valuable player for Deportivo Cali Academy in 2016 and 2018 and was part of two Univalle Tournament winning teams in 2017 and 2018.  His teams also fared well at the Copa La Sultana tournametn with runner-up and champion finishes in 2019, 2020 and 2021. He’s played back and midfielder during his career.

“I chose Dordt because they showed me how they support us as a community with the wholesome feeling of wanting you to be a part of them and for the excellent engineering program,” said Ospina.

Juan is the son of Cesar Ospina and Paola Uribe of Cali, Colombia. He plans to study Engineering at Dordt.

Dordt University in Sioux Center, Iowa, is a comprehensive Christian college rooted in the Reformed tradition. The Defender athletic program is a part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC), American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) and the Mid-American Collegiate Hockey Association (MACHA). 

U.S. News & World Report, Money Magazine, Forbes.com, Washington Monthly, and Princeton Review all list Dordt on their best colleges lists. Dordt is home to approximately 1,500 students.
