THE FOE…

Northwestern is 15-5 this season and 10-5 in the GPAC and have won five in a row since an 81-74 overtime loss to Concordia on January 2.

Alex Van Kalsbeek leads the team with a 19.6 points per game average and 7.1 rebounds while converting 73.9 percent of his field goal attempts.  He also averages 2.7 assists per game. Trent Hilbrands scores 16.7 points per game and has converted 43 percent of his three-point shots and has 61 made three-point baskets this season. Craig Sterk and Jay Small average 13.8 and 13.5 points per game with 6.9 and 6.0 rebounds per game. Small has converted 38 percent of his three-point shots and has 50 makes this season. Isaac Heyer adds 7.9 points per game.

Northwestern is outscoring teams 86.5-74.7 and outrebound teams 37.8-29.6.  Northwestern also converts 53.5 percent of its field goals and 40 percent of its three-point shots.

DEFENDER NOTES…

The Defender men are 15-6 overall and 10-6 in the GPAC.    

Dordt converts 50.4 percent of its field goals while outscoring teams 83.6-76.1 and outrebound teams 36.8-33.7. Opponents make 44.6 percent of their field goals and the Defenders have converted 181 three-point shots with 35.5 percent success.   

Garrett Franken scores 16.0 points per game with 7.5 rebounds and he hands out 2.8 assists per game while making 48.9 percent of his field goals. Jesse Jansma scores 15.2 points per game with a team high 4.0 assists per game and he is making 47.2 percent of his field goals. Jacob Vis is scoring 12.4 points per game with 5.8 rebounds and he is making 65 percent of his field goal tries and has a team high 24 blocked shots. Cade Bleeker adds 11.1 points per game and Bryce Coppock is averaging 8.7. Ben Gesink’s average is 6.3 and he gets 3.6 rebounds and he is making 34 percent of his three-point shots. Camden Bialas is at 5.7 points per game and Fykstra converts 5.0. Bialas is making 74.3 percent of his field goal attempts.  Jansma has 38 made three-point shots while Bleeker and Coppock have 35 and 34 and Gesink 27.

LAST TIME…

Northwestern led for all but the first minute of its game with Hastings on Saturday and secured a road win 88-70. Craig Sterk and Alex Van Kalsbeek each had 24 with Sterk grabbing nine rebounds and Van Kalsbeek accounted for six assists. Isaac Heyer added 17 points as Northwestern converted 61.4 percent of its field goals and had a 38-21 rebounding edge.

Dordt surrendered a six point lead early in the second half Saturday and was never able to rally after a Doane 11-0 run and the Tigers won a home decision 83-69. Jesse Jansma and Jacob Vis each had 14 points and Garrett Franken scored 13 with nine rebounds in the loss. Dordt converted 24-61 field goals while Doane was 33-62.

HISTORY…

Dordt built a double digit lead in the first half against Northwestern on December 16 and led the entire second half before winning 94-89.  Northwestern did trim the difference to three as early as 4:44 left but got no closer. Jansma scored 26 and Franken 23 to lead Dordt while Northwestern was topped by Small with 28 and Van Kalsbeek with 26 points and 11 rebounds. Dordt converted 36-65 field goals and Northwestern was 35-68.

Dordt will host Concordia in one week on February 3 in the final home regular season contest.
