Smith To Join Defender Volleyball

(Monday, January 11; Sioux Center, Iowa) Stacia Smith, a senior at Coronado High School (Colorado), has announced her intention to attend Dordt and join the Defender volleyball program.

“Stacia is a talented six rotation outside hitter.  She will provide future ball control depth in our program.  Her desires to grow in her relationship with the Lord and live out The Defender Way are factors that will fit well at Dordt.  Thanks to her coaches Stormy Wells and Crissy Leonhardt, who helped Stacia grow in her volleyball skills.  We look forward to having Stacia join our campus this fall,” said Dordt volleyball coach Chad Hanson.

Smith averaged two ace serves per set with a .271 kill efficiency.  She claimed all-state honorable mention honors for Coranado and helped her team to a third-place finish in 2019. She’s listed as a 5-7 defensive specialist and outside hitter.

“I love the environment at Dordt. The idea of completing my college education at a small town in Iowa was never the plan I had in mind but Dordt quickly went to the top of my list as soon as I visited. The team and coaches are amazing and the town has a way of making you feel at home. I’m incredibly blessed to have this opportunity to attend Dordt and I can’t wait for next year,” said Smith.

Stacia is the daughter of Tatjana and Darin Smith of Colorado Springs, Colorado. She plans to enter the Pre-Architecture program.

Dordt University in Sioux Center, Iowa, is a comprehensive Christian college rooted in the Reformed tradition. The Defender athletic program is a part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC), American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) and the Mid-American Collegiate Hockey Association (MACHA).
