Five Women's Soccer Players Claim All-GPAC Honors

(Monday, December 21; Sioux Center, Iowa) The Great Plains Athletic Conference has announce it’s post-season honors for the recently completed 2020 women’s soccer regular season. Dordt had five players honored in the voting done by the conference coaches.
Alaina Van Zalen (Senior; Jenison, Michigan) earned second-team honors after scoring a team hgh seven goals and she had two assists.
Emily Kooiman (Senior; Bellingham, Washington), Hannah Glynn (Junior; Auburn, Washington), Katherine Kooiman (Sophomore; San Jose, California) and Sarah Miller (Freshman; Paw Paw, Michigan) all earned honorable mention accolades.
Glynn, Miller and Emily Kooiman each had an assist each had an assist and played midfield for the Defenders as they helped limit opponents to 1.43 goals per game.
Katherine Kooiman had three goals and an assist and was second on the team in shots on goal with 24 this season.
“I would like to congratulate these young women who were nominated for All-Conference; well deserved! Thank you to Alaina, Katherine, Emily, Hannah and Sarah for their effort and desire to get better each and every day on the pitch. I also want to thank their teammates, because those five individuals could not have done it by themselves. Each young women in our program has helped to the on field success this season,” said Dordt coach Alex Durbin.
The Defenders finished the season with an 5-5-2 mark in the GPAC and a 6-6-2 overall mark. Dordt will be the eighth seed in the post-season GPAC Tournament scheduled to begin in April.
