(Wednesday, December 9; Sioux Center, Iowa) Lucas VanderKooi, a senior at Kalamazoo Christian High School, has announced his intention to attend Dordt and join the Defender soccer program.
“Lucas is player with a lot of potential and he comes from a quality program coached by Jay Allen. We look forward to seeing him grow in his faith, develop as a player, and become a servant-leader on our campus,” said Dordt men’s coach Ryan Gresse.
VanderKooi scored nine goals as a junior and six during his senior year and earned all-conference, all-district and all-region honors and claimed all-state honorable mention in both 2019 and 2020. VanderKooi has played both midfield and defense during his career and was a part of district champion teams in 2019 and 2020.
“I chose Dordt because of the opportunity to continue my soccer career under a dedicated coaching staff and study Computer Science at a Christian university,” said VanderKooi.
Lucas is the son of Joel and Jackie VanderKooi of Kalamazoo, Michigan. He plans to study Computer Science at Dordt.
