Men's Basketball Returns Home To Face Doane

The Dordt Defender men’s basketball team will host Doane on Saturday, December 5 at 4:00.
The Doane Tigers are 4-5 overall and 1-3 in the league and stopped a three game losing skid with a 68-65 win at home against Midland. Jamestown, Mount Marty and Concordia all beat Doane from November 25-30 after the Tigers took a three week break.
Anthony Laravie leads the team with a 14.2 points per game average and Carson Busch scores 10.5 points per game. Ben Moxness adds 9.6 points per game with 5.0 rebounds and Jaxon Harre and Trey Winkler each have an 8.4 points per game average.
Doane scores 67 points per game on 40.5 percent field goal shooting and the Tigers have committed 53 fewer turnovers than opponents through nine games. Teams are averaging 72.8 points per game on 47.2 percent field goal shooting and the Tigers are getting outrebounded 39.8-29.6.
The Defender men are 6-3 overall and 2-3 in the GPAC. Dordt’s wins in league play are over Briar Cliff and Midland and the losses are to Dakota Wesleyan, Concordia and Morningside.
Dordt converts 48 percent of its field goals while outscoring teams 79.7-73.8 and outrebound teams 38.4-36. Opponents make 43.8 percent of their field goals against Dordt turnovers are about even through nine games with Drodt committing 110 and opponents 103.
Garrett Franken scores 15.9 points per game with 7.6 rebounds and he hands out just over two assists per game. Jesse Jansma scores 14.1 points per game with a team high 4.0 assists per game and he is making 45.8 percent of his field goals. Jacob Vis is scoring 12.9 points per game with 7.2 rebounds and he is making 64.6 percent of his field goal tries and has a team high 13 blocked shots. Cade Bleeker adds 10.6 points per game and Bryce Coppock is averaging 8.4. Camden Bialas and Ben Gesink are at 4.9 points per game each and Dejay Fykstra is averaging 4.7.
Dordt battled back from a first-half, 13-point deficit, but couldn’t overcome the Morningside Mustangs in their Wednesday night contest. Garrett Franken scored 19 and had 14 rebounds while Bryce Coppock scored 14 off the bench and Jesse Jansma had 11 points and four assists.
Doane scored the final six points over the final 3:26 and beat Midland on Wednesday night 68-64. Laravie’s free throws in the final seconds sealed the win and capped the comeback. Joe Burt scored 19 to lead the Tigers and Carson Busch added 15.
Dordt won both games last season with a 91-55 decision on January 2 in Sioux Center and followed that up with a 75-69 win in Crete on January 25. Cade Bleeker scored 26 on 8-11 three-point shooting in the first meeting and Dordt’s balance was enough to offset Laravie’s 28 points performance in Crete. Jansma had 15 and Zach Bussard scored 14.
Dordt leads the series 23-9.
Dordt will host Doane on Saturday, December 5 and will travel to Jamestown on Tuesday, December 8.
