Women's Basketball Hosts Doane

THE FOE…
The Doane Tigers are 3-4 overall and 1-3 in the GPAC with a conference win over Mount Marty on November 11 the lone win in GPAC play. The win over Mount Marty was the Tigers’ third in a row as they got off to a 3-1 start but have lost three games since. Concordia (111-52), Jamestown (90-81 ot) and Midland (87-76) are the last three opponents for the Tigers.
Haylee Heits tops the Tigers with a 16.3 points per game average to go with 4.6 rebounds and she makes 50 percent of her field goal attempts. Olivia Nall scores 11.3 points per outing and Sydney Roth and Ashley Teten are at 10.6 and 10.3 respectively. Azallee Johnson is good for 9.3 points per game but she hasn’t played in the last two games. Nall is the top three-point threat with a 34.3 percent success rate and Teten leads the rebounding effort with an 8.1 average.
Doane is getting outscored 80.9-77.3 and outrebound teams 45.3-43. Doane also converts 40.1 percent of its field goal attempts and 31 percent of its three-point shots.
DEFENDER NOTES…
Dordt is 2-5 this season with wins over Grand View (75-64) and Midland (70-58) and losses to Dakota State (79-60), Sterling (80-71), Concordia (73-62) , Briar Cliff (79-69) and Morningside (85-79).
Dordt is getting outscored 74.0-69.4 through seven games and outrebound teams 44.9-35.1 but have converted 38.8 percent of its field goals and 31.1 percent of its three-point shots. Teams are making 41.7 percent of its field goals and 35.4 percent of its three-point shots against the Defenders.
Bailey Beckman leads the team with 14.0 points per game average while Erika Feenstra adds 11.4 points per game with 5.7 rebounds and Ashtyn Veerbeek is good for 11.4 points per game with a team high 9.1 rebounds per game. Mya Chmielewski adds 7.3 points per game in a reserve role and Jordyn Winterfeld and Baylee Tetzlaff average 4.0 and 4.9 points per game respectively.
LAST TIME…
Dordt battled but came up short to Morningside in Sioux City on December 2. The Defenders ended up on the short end of an 85-79 score to the Mustangs and the lead down to four points with a minute left but got no closer. Veerbeek scored 27 on 10-12 shooting and grabbed ten rebounds with Beckman scoring 13 and Feenstra had 11. The Defenders converted 51.8 percent of their field goals and had a 40-23 rebounding advantage.
Midland was an 87-76 winner over Doane on Wednesday night with Doane paced by Heits with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Olivia Nall had 14 points and 10 rebounds in a game where the Tigers trailed by double figures the last nine minutes of the game.
HISTORY…
The Defenders won both meetings last season with an 80-47 win on January 2 and a 76-59 win on January 25.
In the second meeting Dordt outscored the Tigers 32-11 in the third quarter to break open the game. Feenstra scored 16 and Gustafson added 12. Doane got 16 from Heits and she took in 10 rebounds.
The game on January 2 was never close with Dordt leading 47-21 at halftime on the way to the 33 point win. Gabby Kreykes had 14 points and Feenstra scored 13 with six rebounds to lead Dordt. Sydney Roth paced the Tigers with 15 points in 17 minutes of playing time off the bench.
Dordt and Doane have split their 32 games played right down the middle and stand 16-16 against each other.
NEXT…
Dordt will travel to Jamestown on Tuesday, December 8 before returning home to face Hastings on Saturday, December 12.
