Van Eps Claims Academic All-American Honors

(Monday, June 22; Sioux Center, Iowa) The 2020 Academic All-American Men’s Track & Field/Cross Country Teams have been announced by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors Association) and Dordt’s Matthew Van Eps (Junior; Prinsburg, Minnesota) has earned second-team honors.

Van Eps recently completed his junior year at Dordt and won a NAIA National Indoor Track & Field Championship in the 800 meters and was on a distance medley relay team that placed third in 2020.  He won two individual titles at the GPAC Indoor Championships, a relay title and earned sixth place in another relay. Van Eps has won three national titles and earned top-eight finishes in another three events at the NAIA National Championships during his career and he’s claimed 10 GPAC indoor and outdoor track and field titles and has eight other top-eight finishes in the conference meet. 

Van Eps is an Engineering major and has a 3.70 grade point average through six semesters at Dordt.

Van Eps is the third Dordt athlete to earn CoSIDA Academic All-American honors for the 2019-20 school year. He joins Erika Feenstra (Women’s Basketball) and David Kacmarynski (Football) as honorees.

20 NAIA Men’s Track and Field/Cross Country athletes were accorded Academic All-American honors this year. Individuals are nominated by their institution’s Sports Information Director.  All-District honorees are on the national ballot and are voted on by CoSIDA members based on athletic accomplishments and academic performance.
