The Association of Christians in the Mathematical Sciences (ACMS) announced Dr. Mike Janssen as the new board executive secretary. Janssen will serve an initial four-year term, beginning July 1 2020, completing his term June 30, 2024.

Janssen has been an associate professor of mathematics at Dordt University since 2014. His role as the executive secretary on the board will be beneficial, as Dordt prepares to host the 2023 ACMS biennial conference on the university’s campus.

“Mike is a wonderful colleague and I look forward to serving with him in this capacity as well,” says Dr. Valorie Zonnefeld, fellow Dordt mathematics professor as well as a board member of ASMS.

During his first year, Janssen will transition into this role with the aid of former executive secretary, Bob Brabenec, who served in the position for the past 44 years. Janssen will also be working closely with the anticipated president of ACMS, Josh Wilkerson, whose term as president will begin July 1, 2021.

The mathematics professor has proven to be more than capable of filling this position, as he has been an active member of the ACMS for the past six years. With a Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, he has continued to be an active participant in mathematical community.

He has taken part in both the 2015 and 2017 ACMS Biennial conference and has attended multiple receptions for the ACMS at the Joint Mathematics Meetings (JMM) January conference. The ACMS Board looks forward to installing Janssen into this role.
