Postseason Honors For Vander Zee and Postma

Postseason Honors For Vander Zee and Postma

Garret Vander Zee

(Monday, March 30; Sioux Center, Iowa)  The AMC/GPAC/KCAC Conference has announced its post season honors for the 2020 men’s volleyball season. Dordt had two athletes garner honors in recent voting by the conference coaches.

Garret Vander Zee (Sophomore; South Holland, Illinois) earned second team honors after averaging 4.2 kills per set with a .226 kill efficiency to go with 12 service aces and 1.2 digs per set. Vander Zee ranked seventh in kills per set in the NAIA this season.

“Garret played amazing this year and was a vital component to the historic success we had through our abbreviated men’s volleyball season. Often he was the match leader in kills and had several matches over 20 kills.  To have this success as an attacker, when many teams knew that he would probably get the ball in certain rotations, is that much more incredible.  He is growing into a complete player in each rotation and we are excited about his future,” said Dordt volleyball coach Chad Hanson.

Tyler Postma (Senior; Abbotsford, British Columbia) finished the season with an 8.07 assists per set average and he got to 1.52 digs per set and he accounted for 13 solo blocks and 33 block assists in 2020.

“Tyler played his best volleyball this season with a tempo of offense that was most consistent and exciting and lively routes that put our hitters in successful positions to score.  His block at the net was also a game changer at key times and we found great success lining him up against opposing team power hitters.  Not only did Tyler grow in his offensive skills and ability, but he developed a stronger mentality of how to compete within each rotation and moment on the court.  This is his first time appearing in a conference honors position and he definitely earned it,” said Hanson.

The Defenders ended their season with a 7-9 mark.  This is the final year of the AMC/GPAC/KCAC affiliation as the GPAC is scheduled to sponsor men’s volleyball next season with Dordt, Briar Cliff, Morningside, Jamestown, Hastings and Ottawa (Kansas) making up the field. Ottawa is an affiliate member for the sport.
