Volleyball Goes To Lamoni Saturday

WHERE AND WHEN…          

The Dordt men’s volleyball team will travel to Lamoni, Iowa to face Graceland on Saturday, February 15 at 1:00 at Lamoni High School.


Graceland is 4-3 this season and 2-2 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference.

The Yellowjackets won two matches in a row to start the season and have won two out of their last three contests with victories over William Penn and Clarke.

The Lamoni, Iowa based school is averaging 10.96 kills per set with a .208 kill efficiency and are giving up 9.71 kills per set.  Graceland has a 37-35 season ace serves advantage and score 1.5 points per set on blocks while allowing 2.38 points per set on blocks.

Matt Romero is leading the team with 2.5 kills per set and Naone Passi is at 2.46 kills. Josh Sanana-Kaio and Brandon Kampshoff put up 4.38 and 4.63 assists respectively in splitting the setting duties. Kampshoff leads the team with 12 service aces and also gets to a team high 1.67 digs per set.


The Defenders are 2-5 this season and 0-2 in the conference configuration.

Dordt is averaging 10.19 kills per set with a .175 kill efficiency and the Defenders are getting to 9.59 digs  per outing with 2.06 points per set recorded on blocks.  Dordt also has 36 service aces this season and average 1.33 per set. Teams are hitting .200 against the Defenders and have recorded 32 total aces against the Defenders this year.  

Garret Vander Zee is tops on the team with a 4.37 kills per set average to go with a .223 kill efficiency. Caleb Kulesza is putting down 2.11 kills per set and he has a .156 kill efficiency. Shavon Barker is good for 1.04 kills per set and a .221 kill efficiency and he is averaging just under one block per set along with Luke Nelson. Tyler Postma puts up 8.11 assists per set with 2.04 digs.

Levi Ewald leads the team with 2.19 digs per set and and 2.0 digs per outing respectively and Vander Zee and Kulesza each have 10 service aces to lead the team.


Dordt and Graceland played a pair of matches last year on January 26 in Sioux Center and Graceland won both by 3-0 counts. The Yellowjackets won the first match 25-18, 26-24, 25-18 and Ben Tiemersma had 11 kills and Postma 23 assists. Graceland’s Keone Coronado had 10 kills to pace the visitors.

The second match saw Graceland win 25-15, 25-19, 25-22. Tiemersma had 11 kills in that match and Postma recorded 24 assists. Graceland’s Romero put down 11 kills.


Dordt lost to Morningside in five sets on Wednesday night 29-27, 16-25, 25-23, 23-25, 15-10. Dordt got 22 kills from Vander Zee and Kulesza added ten kills with four service aces. Postma was the leader in assists with 36 and had 11 digs while Brandon Vaags and Levi Ewald each had 10 digs. Postma and Vaags also had five kills each.

Graceland beat Clarke on February 1 by a 25-18, 25-22, 25-22 score and got nine kills by Passi and Kampshoff had 16 assists with two service aces.


Dordt will play on the road against William Penn on February 21 before returning home on February 25 to face Briar Cliff.
