MACHA Postseason Play For Defender Hockey

On the Docket…

The Defender hockey team will travel to Springfield, Illinois to compete in the MACHA Silver Division  playoffs. Play begins on Friday, February 14 and continues Saturday, February 15. The Defenders are the sixth seed in the eight-team field and will face a familiar foe on Friday at 5:15 PM.  If the Defenders win they will play at either 1:45 or 4:45 on Saturday. The tournament is hosted by Bradley University.  A loss ends the Defenders’ season.  

The Foe…

Nebraska is 14-5 this season and has outscored teams 94-60. The Huskers have played four games since returning from semester break and went 3-1 in those games.

Jordan Hank has 14 goals and 15 assists to lead in both categories. Evan Johnson has 13 goals and ten assists and Alex Robb has eight goals and 13 assists. Jonathan Cowley has ten goals and Maxwell Stedman has assisted on 11 goals.

Bennet Stanchfield and Alex Kopf have split time in goal with Stanchfield playing 701 minutes with 366 saves and a 3.08 goals allowed average. Kopf has played 506 minutes and has 217 saves with a 2.84 goals allowed average.

The Defenders…

The Defenders are 4-12 this season with wins over

Eli Visscher has a team high nine goals and 12 assists and Logan Visser has eight goals and nine assists. Jaren Brue has six goals and eight assists while Fred Bullock and Samuel De Jong also have four goals. Rylan Brue has four goals and three assists.  Bryce Andry and David Burns split the time in goal with Andry playing 420 minutes with 252 saves and 39 goals allowed and Burns has played 480 minutes with 300 saves and 43 goals allowed. 

Last Time…

The Defenders played Creighton on Saturday, February 8 to conclude the regular season and lost a 9-6 decision in Omaha. The game came after the Defenders were idle for two weeks due to teams disbanding.  Six different Defenders scored a goal each and Caleb Koomans assisted on three goals. Jaren Brue had a goal and an assist as did Eli Visscher and Logan Visser. Bryce Andry faced 40 shots in goal and made 31 saves.

The Series…

The Defenders and Huskers played on January 24 and 25 in Sioux Center with Nebraska winning both by scores of 8-1 and 6-2. In the 6-2 loss the Defenders had the lead down to 3-2 at the end of the second period on goals by Collin O’Brien and Rylan Brue both on assists by Eli Visscher.   Nebraska put the contest out of reach with three goals from the 10:00 of the third period to the 15:00 mark. 

What’s Next…

Teams are playing for the right to move on to the Pacific Regional which will send qualifiers to the ACHA Division III National Championships in Frisco, Texas from March 19-29.
