(Wednesday, February 5; Sioux Center, Iowa) The Great Plains Athletic Conference and Hauff Mid-America Sports have announced the women’s indoor track & field athletes-of-the-week for events held January 27-February 2 and Dordt’s Sarah Wensink (Senior; Sioux Center, Iowa) has earned the honor.
Wensink earns the track portion of the award for her performance at the Dennis Young Invite in Storm Lake, Iowa on Saturday, February 1 where she won the 1,000 meters. Her time was 2.5 seconds under the needed mark to qualify for the NAIA National Championship and she has the top mark in the event in the GPAC and ranks 2th in the NAIA.
“It is exciting to see Sarah running with so much confidence and grit. She was having a great indoor season last year when she was injured in a car accident, so we are all very happy to see her be able to reach her full potential this season. She has worked extremely hard this year, and her hard work is paying off. She is a great leader on our team, and I am happy to see her recognized as conference athlete of the week,” said Dordt track and field coach Craig Heynen.
Dordt continues its season on Saturday, February 8 at a meet hosted by the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, South Dakota.
