Maurer To Join Softball Program

(Friday, January 9; Sioux Center, Iowa) Elizabeth Maurer, a senior at South O'Brien High School (Iowa), has announced her intention to attend Dordt and join the Defender softball program.

"We are excited to welcome Liz into the Defender Softball program!  Liz is also a local player and will spend time playing outfield for the Defenders.  Liz will enhance the culture of our program and we look forward to seeing her continue to develop her skills during her time at Dordt," said Dordt softball coach Jeff Zomer. 

Maurer batted .328 with two homeruns, 17 runs batted in and had 22 hits in 2019.

"The enviroment around Dordt is so welcoming and makes the university feel like home. The team was welcoming when I came to practice. Overall Dordt feels like the school for me," said Maurer.

Elizabeth is the daughter of Bradley and Debra Maurer of Sutherland, Iowa.  She plans to study Elementary Education or join the Pre-Physical Therapy program.

Dordt University in Sioux Center, Iowa, is a comprehensive Christian university rooted in the Reformed tradition. The Defender athletic program is a part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC). 

U.S. News & World Report, Money Magazine,, Washington Monthly, and Princeton Review all list Dordt on their best colleges lists. Dordt is home to approximately 1,500 students.
