(Monday, December 9; Sioux Center, Iowa) The American Volleyball Coaches’ Association (AVCA) has announced its all-region teams for the recently completed 2019 season. Dordt’s Ally Krommendyk (Senior; Hamburg, Minnesota) earned All-West Central honors while Karsyn Winterfeld (Junior; Sioux Center, Iowa) earned honorable mention honors.
Krommendyk averaged 2.53 kills per set with a .327 kill efficiency and ended the season with a team high 1.13 blocks per set. Krommmendyk also earned all-GPAC first-team honors in 2019 and was twice named all-GPAC honorable mention in 2017 and 2018. She leaves the program with 813 career kills and had 61 solo bocks which ranks 7th all-time and she had 372 assisted blocks which is 5th all-time. Her 433 career blocks rank 6th all-time.
“Ally had a tremendous year blocking and attacking. Her statistics are nationally strong and she holds a high position of respect amongst not only the conference coaches but also the region. She is well deserving of this recognition,” said Dordt volleyball coach Chad Hanson.
Winterfeld led the team with a 3.17 kills per set average and she also averaged 2.37 digs per set. Winterfeld had a season high 27 kills in a win over the College of Saint Mary and also had 26 kills in a win over Dakota Wesleyan.
”Karsyn surfaced as our top kill leader as the season progressed. She provided offensive scoring for us through all six of her rotations. There were several matches that she not only led the entire match in kills for both teams but also the conference on those same weekends of play. Her total game of passing, serving, and digging were additional reasons she was recognized by the region coaches. This is a well deserved honor for Karsyn,” said Hanson.
The Defenders concluded the 2019 season with an 18-11 record and were tied for fourth in the GPAC conference race.
