(Tuesday, November 12; Sioux Center, Iowa) The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced its Players-of-the-Week for football games played November 9 and Brett Zachman (Freshman; Leesburg, Florida) earned the honor for his special teams play in a 43-7 win over Briar Cliff. Zachman was eligible for the honor after earning the weekly honor from the Great Plains Athletic Conference.
Zachman converted four field goals in the first half against Briar Cliff to help the Defenders to a 12-0 lead. He ended the game 5-5 on field goal attempts and 4-4 on point after touchdown tries. One of Zachman’s field goals was a season long of 44. Zachman also won the GPAC Player-of-the-Week honors last week and is a combined 14-14 on point after touchdown tries the last two weeks.
“Week by week, Brett is showing his growth as a kicker. We knew the talent was there when we recruited him and it is rewarding to see him grow into his potential so early in his career. He has a bright future and with his work ethic and commitment to the details, Brett can be an elite kicker in the NAIA,” said Dordt football coach Joel Penner.
The Defenders are 7-3 this season and will host Midland to conclude the season on November 16.
