Soccer Opens GPAC Play

The Defender soccer teams will travel to Aberdeen, South Dakota to face the Presentation Saints in the GPAC opener for the Defenders on Wednesday, September 11. Results will be available at www.dordt.edu/athletics and at https://twitter.com/dordtdefenders. This is the first of four women’s and men’s soccer doubleheaders on the road.
The Presentation women are 1-3 this season and 0-1 in Great Plains Athletic Conference play. Presentation’s win this season is over Nebraska Christian by a 9-0 score. The loss in GPAC play is a 1-0 loss to Mount Marty. The Saints have outscored teams 10-6 and outshot teams on goal 40-36. Taking away the 9-0 win over the Sentinels the Saints have been outscored 6-1. Mikayla Semenov and Amy Turner each have two goals. Kristina Nelson has played 321 minutes in goal and has a 1.68 goals allowed average with 27 saves.
The Presentation men are 1-2 this season and 0-1 in the GPAC. The Saints have a 9-2 win over Nebraska Christian and a 6-1 loss to Mount Marty in GPAC play on September 4. Presentation has been outscored 13-10 and has been outshot on goal 41-17. Keiren Clark has a team high five goals and Eduardo Melo has three assists with a pair of goals. Jack Murray has played 167 minutes in goal with 20 saves and a 5.92 goals allowed average. Alan Plosay has played 102 minutes and a 1.76 goals allowed average and seven saves.
Dordt is 2-3 this season in women’s play with a 5-1 win over Buena Vista and a 4-2 win over Ottawa. The wins came after losses to Viterbo, Olivet Nazarene and Bellevue. Dordt’s been outscored 15-11 this season and have outshot teams on goal 38-34. Alaina Van Zalen has four goals and two assists and Emily Kooiman and Maddie Regnerus each have two goals scored. DeLynne Zevenbergen and Karlee Kuyvenhoven have played 180 and 270 minutes each respectively. Zevenbergen has a 1.5 goals allowed average and Kuyvenhoven has a 4.0 goals allowed average. Zevenbergen has six saves and Kuyvenhoven has 12 saves this season.
The Defender men are 2-1-1 this season with wins over Ottawa and Viterbo and a tie with Buena Vista. Friends has the win over the Defenders. Dordt’s outscored teams 8-7 this season but have been outshot on goal 33-19. Patrick Munsey has scored three goals and five other players have one goal each. Seth Lewison has played 380 minutes in goal with a 1.66 goals allowed average and has 22 saves.
Dordt beat Ottawa 4-2 on Saturday with three goals by Alaina Van Zalen and a win in goal by Kuyvenhoven and she had five saves.
Presentation beat Nebraska Christian on September 7, 9-0. Semenov scored two goals and Nelson played half of the game with one save and Kelsey Clements played the other half and didn’t face a shot.
Dordt earned a 1-0 win over Ottawa on Saturday with Luke Foster scoring the long goal of the day on a penalty kick in the 12 minute. Lewison had five saves in goal for the Defenders.
Presentation’s men beat Nebraska Christian 9-2 with Clarke scoring four and Plosay had four saves for the Saints.
Dordt’s women were 5-2 winners over Presentation last season. Regnerus had two goals for Dordt and three other players scored a goal each. Dordt had a 6-2 shots on goal advantage. Zevenbergen faced three shots in goal for Dordt.
The Dordt men were 5-1 winners over Presentation last year on September 15. Nils Gulbranson and Munsey each had two goals. Lewison made three saves in goal and faced four total shots. Kieren Clark had the goal for Presentation.
Dordt will travel to York on Saturday, September 14 and will be at Dakota Wesleyan on September 18.
Presentation will face Concordia on September 14 and Jamestown on September 18.
