Men's GPAC Poll Released For Soccer

(Tuesday, August 13; Sioux Center, Iowa) The Great Plains Athletic Conference has released the 2019 Preseason Men’s Soccer Coaches’ Poll. The Dordt Defenders are picked ninth in the poll.

Dordt totaled 43 points in the annual balloting done by the 12 conference coaches.  Points are awarded in descending order with a first place vote carrying an 11 point value.  Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own teams.

The Defender men posted a 6-10-1 record last season and a 2-8-1 GPAC mark. Mika de Vin (Senior; Vernon, British Columbia), Garrett Goodson (Junior; Towanda, Kansas) and Patrick Munsey (Junior; McPherson, Kansas) return and accounted for 55 percent of the Defenders goals last season.   Also returning is Seth Lewison (Senior; West Salem, Wiscnsin) who played 13 games in goal and had a 2.30 goals allowed average.

The Defenders open the regular season on Thursday, August 22 against Viterbo at home.  Dordt opens the season with four home games before going to Presentation for a September 11 GPAC opener in Aberdeen, South Dakota.

This season the Defenders will be coached by first-year head coach Ryan Gresse.

Hastings totaled 120 points in the voting and is picked by the coaches to win the GPAC title. Hastings has won all 19 regular season men’s soccer GPAC titles dating back to the league’s formation in 2000.
