Baseball Opens GPAC Play Thursday

Dordt is scheduled to face Morningside in a pair of doubleheaders on Thursday and Friday, March 14 and 15 in Tucson, Arizona. The games are the first of the GPAC schedule and will be played at the same time the rest of the GPAC teams travel to Kansas to open the season from Friday through Sunday this weekend.
Morningside is 8-3 this season and has played five games since arriving in Tucson on March 8.
The Mustangs are batting .341 as a team and are led by Sam Huska with 16 hits and ten runs batted in with four doubles. Derrick Johnson is batting .405 with 15 hits and one homeru with eight runs batted in. Andrew Kasperbauer is batting .270 with 11 runs batted in. Aaron Homme, Colby Suentjens and Elliot Conover each have two wins this season and Homme has a team high 20 innings pitched and has 26 strikeouts.
Dordt is 3-4 this season and has a team .276 batting average and is led by Logan Cline’s .500 batting average with 14 hits and three doubles. He tops the team with 13 runs batted in and Dillon Branderhorst has ten runs batted in with a .375 batting average and nine hits.
Isaac Vander Hart and Luke Drooger are both 1-0 and have both pitched nine innings. Vander Hart’s earned run average is 2.00 and he has seven strikeouts. Isaac Buteyn is 1-0 in one appearance and has pitched four innings and hasn’t allowed an earned run and he has seven strikeouts. Drooger and Cole Vande Vegte have five and six strikeouts respectively.
Dordt was 1-3 against Morningside last season on April 20 and 21. Buteyn pitched for the Dordt win with six and a third innings of work and he struck out seven and walked three.
Dordt is scheduled to face Dakota Wesleyan on March 22 and Doane on March 23.
