Football Has Six Scholar-Athletes

(Tuesday, December 18; Sioux Center,Iowa) The NAIA released the 2018 Daktronics NAIA Football Scholar-Athletes late last week.  Dordt College had six athletes on the list.

Ben Hayes (Senior; Idaho Falls, Idaho) and Keithen Drury (Senior; Blue Hill, Nebraska) are both repeat honorees from 2017.  Holden Hooyer (Junior; Pella, Iowa), Tristan White (Junior; Cedar Falls, Iowa), William Vander Woude (Junior; Merced, California) and Levi Niesen (Junior; Waynesville, Illinois) all earned the honor for the first time in their careers.

Hayes, Drury, White and Niesen are all studying Engineering while Hooyer and Vander Woude are in the Agriculture program at Dordt.

The 2018 list features 392 student-athletes that achieved at least a 3.5 cumulative grade point average (GPA) at their institution. In order to be nominated by an institution’s head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, must appear on the eligibility certificate for the sport and have attended two full years as a non-transfer or one full year as a transfer.
