Weight Room Upgrade Project Underway

(Thursday, November 1; Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College Athletic Department is working to raise $100,000 by December 1, 2018 to transition from the current Defender Weight Room to the space previously occupied by the gymnastics program.
The move will result in an increase in available space for Dordt’s 500-plus athletes and the general community from 2,500 square feet to 5,500 square feet. Funds raised will also used for, but not limited to: flooring, projector and video equipment, six fully stocked racks, two full sets of dumbbells and miscellaneous training equipment. The project includes upgrades to the current weight room for community use.
“With the departure of the local gymnastics program from the campus Rec Center, we have an opportunity to advance Defender athletics by way of an upgraded weight room facility. This new room is 800 square feet larger than our existing weight room and provides more space for additional equipment and the ability to effectively better train our athletes. In addition, the existing weight room will be enhanced and will be able to provide students and community members with the opportunity to utilize that room at any point throughout the day. We see many different groups benefiting from this transition,” said Dordt College Athletic Director Ross Douma.
Fundraising for this project is underway with hopes to transition the space during Christmas break 2018-19.
