Volleyball Holds At Fifth In National Poll

(Wednesday, October 31; Sioux Center, Iowa) Dordt College is no. 5 in the most recent NAIA Women’s Volleyball Coaches’ Poll released on Tuesday, October 30.

The Defenders totaled 514 points in the voting done by 21 coaches representing the various conferences across the country. It’s the second poll in a row the Defenders are fifth in the poll. At the time of the voting Dordt was 23-2 and had concluded the GPAC season with a 16-0 mark.

Columbia is fourth with 531 points and Park is in the top spot with 19 first-place votes and 590 total points. Grand View, one of the two teams to defeat Dordt, is second and got the two remaining first-place votes.

“At this point in our season, we reflect on a grueling conference schedule and feel tremendous joy at what we have been able to accomplish.  Nationally, the top-10 teams stayed constant which is pretty unique but also a reflection to the strength of each team’s finish to their regular season.  Playoffs are just a week away,” said Dordt College coach Chad Hanson.

The Defenders are 16-0 in GPAC play with a 24-2 regular season mark and will open GPAC Tournament play on Saturday, November 3 against a foe to be determined after the season concludes on Wednesday, October 31.

The GPAC has four teams ranked in the top-14. Northwestern is no. 9; Midland is no. 11 and Hastings is no. 14. Jamestown is in the top-25 with the 23rd spot.

The final season poll is released November 12.
