Soccer Opens GPAC Play

The Defender women’s soccer team will host Presentation on Saturday, September 15 with the start time at 1:00. The men’s contest will follow at 3:15. The Presentation women are 0-5-1 this season with the tie coming in a game with the College of Saint Mary on August 28.
The Saints have been outscored 15-2 and outshot on goal 68-15. Kristina Nelson has played 564 minutes in goal and has a 2.39 goals allowed average with 53 saves.
The Presentation men are 0-5 this season and have been outscored 19-4 and have outshot teams on goal 66-21. Hilario Caro Munoz has two goals scored this season and Brandt McCall has played 450 minutes in goal with 19 goals allowed and has made 46 saves.
Dordt is 2-4 this season in women’s play and has wins over Avila and Buena Vista. The Defenders have been outscored 13-9 this season and outshot on goal 49-29.
Kenzie Bousema has four goals and Alaina Van Zaelen has scored three. DeLynne Zevenbergen has played 360 minutes in goal with eight goals allowed and 24 saves. She has a 2.0 goals allowed average. Karlee Kuyvenhoven has played 180 minutes in goal and has a 2.5 goals allowed average with 12 saves.
The Defender men are 4-2 this year and are on a two-game winning streak. Dordt has outscored teams 10-8 this season with opponents holding a 39-35 shots on goal advantage.
Garrett Goodson has a team high five goals and four other players have one goal each and an own goal accounts for Dordt’s tenth goal. Goodson also has three assists. Seth Lewison has played 451 minutes in goal and has a 1.0 goals allowed average with 27 saves.
Dordt was on the short end of a 1-0 decision with Viterbo on Saturday, September 8. Viterbo got a goal in the 56th minute and had an 8-3 shots on goal advantage as Zevenbergen had seven saves in 90 minutes.
The Presentation women lost to Briar Cliff 5-0 and were outshot 17-2 on goal. Nelson made 12 saves for the Saints in the loss. Presentation trailed 4-0 at halftime.
The Dordt men have a 2-1 overtime win in their most recent contest with Waldorf on September 8. Gideon De Graaf scored in the 84th minute on an assist by Garrett Goodson to tie the game and Goodson scored off an assist by Colton Schreur in the second minute of overtime to end the game.
The Presentation men lost to Tabor on September 9 by a 2-0 count. Tabor outshot the Saints 19-4 and scored goals in the 57th and 66th minutes.
The Defenders will pick up play on Wednesday, September 19 against Dakota Wesleyan and Doane on Saturday, September 22. Both games are part of a three-game homestand for the Defenders.
