Dordt Holds 64th Commencement Ceremony

307 students graduated on May 11

On Friday, May 11, Dordt College held its 64th commencement ceremony. 307 students graduated in total, including 28 graduate students. The class represented a variety of countries, including Canada, Indonesia, Australia, Senegal, Ukraine, and South Korea.

Dr. Ethan Brue, professor of engineering at Dordt, gave the commencement address, titled, “Two Steps Back, One Step Forward.” He discussed the meaning of the name “Dordt,” in light of the 400th anniversary of the Synod of Dort, the college’s namesake.

“You need to know that for however many years you have been here, you have made Dordt a better place; the name ‘Dordt’ is now a richer name,” Brue said to the 2018 graduates.

The B.J. Haan Auditorium, with a seating of 1428, was packed for the ceremony, with another 300 people in overflow. Over 700 viewed the ceremony online since its initial livestream. The Dordt Concert Choir, directed by Mr. Ryan Smit, performed beautiful arrangements of “This Is My Father’s World” and “Praise to the Lord.”
