Sioux Center, IA: On Friday, February 9, Dordt College will host its biennial Orchestra Festival. This festival features three local area high schools, along with the Dordt Chamber Orchestra.
The participating schools include Le Mars Community High School (Ted Hallberg, conductor), Unity Christian High School (Katie De Vries, conductor), and Western Christian High School (Ashley Wielenga, conductor). The groups will combine for rehearsals and sectionals in the afternoon.
The festival will culminate in an evening concert at 7 pm in Dordt’s B.J. Haan Auditorium, in a performance featuring over 110 string players. Each school orchestra will first perform an individual selection. Then the groups will combine for four mass orchestra pieces, conducted by Dr. Brad Miedema: Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 5 and First Movement, Grieg’s A Nordic Lullaby, Massenet’s Aubade (from ‘Le Cid),' and Newbold’s Fantasía Española.
This event is free and open to the public.
