De Young Picks Dordt College

(Monday, January 8th, Sioux Center, Iowa )  Makayla De Young, a senior at Central Wisconsin Christian High School, has announced her intention to attend Dordt College and join the Defender Women’s basketball program.

De Young has been averaging 14.4 points, 13.3 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 3.2 blocks per game through the first nine games of her senior year.  As a junior, she averaged 13.5 points, 10.3 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 3.5 steals per game. Makayla has been averaging a double-double for three years of her varsity basketball career at Central Wisconsin Christian. She is due to surpass 1,000 career points within a few games. De Young is listed at 6'0".

As a junior, De Young earned 2nd Team All-Conference honors and Team MVP for basketball.  During her sophomore year she garnered Team MVP and 1st Team All-Conference. Makayla has also competed in volleyball and took honors as the Conference Player of the Year and All State Honorable Mention as a senior.  Her team was conference champions in 2017 and have reached the regional finals four years in a row for volleyball and three years in a row for basketball.

She brings an exceptional work ethic and displays great Christian character that makes her a great Dordt fit” said Dordt College basketball coach Kyle Lindbergh.

Makayla is the daughter of Gayle and Scott De Young who reside in Waupun, Wisconsin.  She plans to study Pre-Occupational Therapy at Dordt College.

Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa, is a comprehensive Christian college rooted in the Reformed tradition. The Defender athletic program is a part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC).
