Volleyball Holds In Top-Five Of Poll

(Wednesday, September 7; Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College Defender women’s volleyball team is no. 5 in the first regular season NAIA Volleyball Coaches Top-25 Poll.

The Defenders are 12-2 after a GPAC schedule opening win over Morningside on Wednesday night, September 7.    The Defenders had 513 points in the polling conducted by 21 coaches representing each of the conferences and Association of Independent Institutions and Unaffiliated Groups.

The Defenders have won 11 matches in a row since going 2-2 during a season opening trip to California.  Dordt is scheduled to face Grand View (no. 12) on Saturday, September 9 at the De Witt Gym in Sioux Center in its next competition and will follow that up with a match at Orange City on Tuesday, September 12 against Northwestern (no. 14).  The challenging week continues with a match on the road against Doane (no. 16) on Saturday, September 16.  All three of the Dordt opponents are ranked in the top-16 of the poll.

"Having started our season in the top-five and continuing in that position for the first official ranking is meaningful to us. We appreciate the respect that the national coaches have shown us through their votes. Each week is an opportunity to grow and improve in our court effectiveness and relationships together. We are very blessed for the growth already experienced,” said Dordt College coach Chad Hanson.

Six GPAC members are in the top-25 this week.  Dordt, Doane, Northwestern and Morningside along with Hastings (no. 1) and Midland (no. 9) comprise the half dozen GPAC members getting votes.

The second in-season poll of the 2017 season will be released on September 19.
