GPAC Football Poll Released

(Thursday, August 3; Sioux Center, Iowa) The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) held its 18th annual football media day on Thursday, August 3, at the Marina Conference Center in South Sioux City, Nebraska.
The day was highlighted by all nine of the league’s football coaches addressing those present with their season outlook and culminates with the preseason coaches’ poll.
Dordt College is seventh in this year’s poll and tallied 24 points.
“Polls mean that it’s almost football season. While I don’t put a lot of attention on polls it is encouraging to see our program continue to move forward perception wise,” said Dordt College football coach Joel Penner.
Dordt College opens the 2017 season on the road Saturday, September 2 at North Newton, Kansas and will face Bethel as part of the GPAC-KCAC Challenge. Dordt's home opener is the following week against Waldorf and the Defenders open the GPAC season on the road against Morningside on Saturday, September 16 in Sioux City, Iowa.
Morningside is the preseason pick and took 64 points and eight first place votes. Doane received one first place vote. Eight points are awarded for first place votes and descend to one point for eighth place. Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own team in the balloting.
