Two Golfers Claim Scholar-Athlete Notice

(Tuesday, June 20; Sioux Center, Iowa) The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced 144 student-athletes have been named 2017 Daktronics-NAIA Men’s Golf Scholar-Athletes. Dordt College had two athletes on that list.
Tony Kallevig (Junior; Kandiyohi, Minnesota) and Jay Timmer (Junior; Zeeland, Michigan) both earned the honor for the first time. Both Kallevig and Timmer golfed all 17 rounds of competition for Dordt this year with Kallevig carrying a 78.2 average and Timmer’s average was 82.2.
Kallevig is studying Accounting while Timmer is majoring in Computer Science.
In order to be nominated by an institution’s head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved junior academic status.
