Dordt College hosts annual math bees

Dordt College hosted the annual 4th and 5th grade Math Bee and the 7th and 8th grade Math Bee in May. Individuals and teams from local schools received awards for their performances.
4th and 5th grade results
Riley Mulder (Orange City Christian), Griffen Goodbary (Sioux Falls Christian Elementary), Jacob Groothof (Rock Valley Christian), and Liza Jans (Central Lyon) took the top four individual 4th grade spots.
Top four 4th grade teams were Rock Valley Christian, Orange City Christian, Central Lyon Elementary, and Sioux Falls Christian Elementary Team #13.
For the 5th grade individuals, Rebecca Philipsen (Orange City Christian), Cameron Schock (Sioux Falls Christian), Johnny Skyberg (Sioux Falls Christian), and Blake Hoogeveen (Sioux Falls Christian) took the top four spots.
Orange City Christian, Sioux Falls Christian Team #21, Sioux Center Middle School Team #19, and Sioux Falls Christian Team #20 earned the top four places in the 5th grade category.
7th and 8th grade results
This year, Mallorie Mogler (West Lyon Community School), Ali Van Otterloo (Rock Valley Christian), Tara Ymker (Netherlands Reformed Christian), and Kasey Kampman (West Lyon Community School) took the top four spots for the 7th grade individual competition.
Sheldon Community, Netherlands Reformed Christian, West Lyon Community School (Team #23), and Rock Valley Christian won the top four places for the 7th grade team competition.
For the 8th grade individuals, Eric Mars (South O’Brien), Sherylyn Wynia (Netherlands Reformed Christian), Angela Nyunt (South O’Brien), and Ethan Paulson (Sheldon Community) took the top four spots.
Netherlands Reformed Christian, Edgerton Christian, Hull Protestant Reformed School, and South O’Brien won the top positions for the 8th grade team competition.
The Math Bee aims to encourage good math students and hone their problem-solving skills. Individuals and teams are given a variety of math problems with 30 minutes to complete them. The top four places in both the individual and team events receive trophies, and all participants receive participation certificates.
