(Friday, May 12; Sioux Center, Iowa) The Great Plains Athletic Conference has announced its women’s golf post-season honors for the 2016-17 season.
Erin Olsen (Freshman; Atlantic, Iowa) and Alyssa Fedders (Freshman; Sioux Center, Iowa) have earned honorable mention notice in voting done recently by the GPAC coaches.
Fedders played in 17 rounds of competition and nine total events while posting an 88.1 average. She had four top-10 finishes and she broke 80 twice during the season.
“I’m pleased that Alyssa earned honorable mention in the GPAC conference for women’s golf. She had a great freshman season with four top-10 finishes and in the top-20 of the GPAC at the end of the season. Alyssa’s golf game got stronger throughout the season and she will only get better in years to come. She is a great competitor and sets very high goals for herself. It’s been a pleasure to coach her this year and I look forward to watching her golf game get even stronger as she competes for the top of the GPAC conference in years to come,” said Dordt College coach Mark Christians.
Olsen played in 13 rounds and had an 87.8 average and finished second at the Midland Spring Invite. She had low scores of 80 twice this season.
“Erin is a deserving recipient of honorable mention status in the GPAC conference. As a freshmen she finished in the top 25 six of the seven regular events she competed in. She was in 20th place in the GPAC Championships after one round and wasn’t able to complete the final three rounds of the championship played this spring due to her commitments to the nursing program. Erin came into our program as an excellent golfer and has done a great job of adjusting to the college golf game. Her length off the tee and her short game are two strengths of her game and I look forward to see how much Erin can improve over the next three seasons,” said Christians.
