Student receives honorable mention

Goldwater Honorable Mention to Dordt College student Jenna Veenstra

Dordt College senior Jenna Veenstra has been awarded a Goldwater Honorable Mention by the Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation. Veenstra, from Cedar Falls, Iowa, is the first Dordt student to receive this honor. Only two Iowa students received this honor.

Veenstra, who is studying life sciences at Dordt, hopes earn a Ph.D. in biological science and conduct research in biochemistry or bio statistics and one day teach at a college or university.

The selection of Goldwater Scholars and Honorable Mentions are based on academic merit. This year 1,286 natural sciences, mathematics, and engineering students were nominated nationwide. This year, 240 scholarships and 307 honorable mentions were awarded to sophomores and juniors from throughout the United States.

Goldwater scholars have very impressive academic qualifications that garner the attention of prestigious post-graduate fellowship programs.
