Student Sessions

Barbie Bungee
Mathematical modeling involves taking a real problem, exploring it through mathematical analysis, measuring data, and finding patterns. In this session you’ll see if you can use modeling to give a Barbie doll an exciting bungee jump (hopefully) without bumping her head on the pavement.

Candy Computers
Let’s make a computer out of skittles! We will teach a group of skittles to play a simple game, to the point where the candy will win most times.

Careers in Mathematics, Statistics and Data Science
A career panel featuring three Dordt alumni as panelists: Jake Clark (Dordt ’11) – a Statistician at Center for Public Health Statistics, Karen Fischer (Dordt ’15) – a Biostatistician at Mayo Clinic, and Jordan Huisman (Dordt ’17) – an Actuary at Principal Financial Group.

Survivor Smackdown
Your team faces off in a dangerous mathematical battle to fight for rewards, immunity, and the bragging rights of winning 100 GRAND™ each! This competition is not for the faint of heart. There will be blood, sweat, and tears. Test your relationships in this cutthroat challenge. Test your survival abilities if you dare. Are you ready to outwit, outplay, and outlast?

The Amazing Race: A Fast-paced, Exciting Campus Tour
You have been chosen to race across campus for the ultimate prize, early lunch and more! Compete with a team against your friends in fun challenges that test you in more ways than one! Who will be the ultimate winner? Who will work together to beat the odds and solve problems? Join us in this exciting heated event to prove you are the quickest, smartest, most excited team in this competition! Enter if you dare!

The Mathematics of Connection
We all rely on connections in various ways, whether via the food we eat, the goods we order online, or the social networks we use to interact with others. Come learn about the fascinating mathematical questions that arise out of the study of connections.

3M: Mathematical Murder Mystery
Help Dr. Zonnefeld decipher the clues left by a promising young math student who was maliciously attacked and murdered. The entire campus is on edge until the killer can be brought to justice. Fortunately, the victim left clues that may help us solve the mystery. Not open to repeaters.
