The Dordt-Northwestern junior varsity rivalry has been pretty one-sided so far this season. Northwestern used a strong second-half to put away the Defenders for the second time this year, winning 91-76.

The Red Raiders outscored Dordt by 17 points after halftime, largely due to the strength of their 3-point shooting; Northwestern made nine triples in the second-half and 15 overall from long range.

The offenses were running on all cylinders in the first 20 minutes. Dordt employed balanced scoring, accurate free-throw shooting, and great post play from James Rylaarsdam to take a 44-42 lead at the break. Rylaarsdam had 11 in the opening stanza.

Northwestern switched to a tight man-defense which stymied the Defenders' outside shooting. Meanwhile, the Raiders could barely miss from downtown; they put the game out of reach late with two crushing threes by guard Ian Mozeleski.

Garrett Sterk put in 10 second-half points, and was one of four Red Raiders to finish with double-digits. Sterk was alongside Ryan Hoekstra, 13, Ian Mozeleski, 18, and Josh Vander Plaats, 20, as Northwestern's top scorers.

Rylaarsdam took top honors for scoring on the Dordt side, notching 18 points, while Joel Gesink added 16 in his second game back after a knee injury. Lee Veldkamp also pitched in 12.

The loss drops Dordt to 3-6. They will try again in Sioux City on Monday when they take on Morningside.
