Dordt College Football vs. Northwestern

(Orange City, Iowa) Northwestern scored two quick touchdowns against Dordt on Saturday in Orange City and went on to win a 55-7 decision over the Defenders to close the 2012 regular season. The Defenders trailed 41-0 and scored a touchdown late in the third quarter to avert the shutout.

Northwestern scored on touchdown runs by Brandon Smith of two and 44 yards at the 12:29 and 10:25 mark of the first quarter for a 13-0 lead. Brice Byker reeled in a 13 yard pass from Davis Bloemendaal to make it 20-0 with left in the first quarter.

Three more scores, two by pass from Bloemendaal to Tyler Walker and a three yard plunge by Northwestern's Theo Bartman made it 41-0 at halftime.

Dordt got on the board after two more Northwestern scores when David Griess went up and caught a 27 yard aerial from Caleb Luezinger to cap a nine play, 75 yard drive and the score of 55-7 held to the final gun.

Dordt was outgained 542-164 with 303 yards of rushing offense for Northwestern to 76 for Dordt. Northwestern also had 239 yards in the air while Dordt had 76. Dordt was hampered by six turnovers while the hosts had three.

Dordt was led on the ground by Josh Van Kempen with 50 yards on 12 carries and Lenard Manuel had seven carries for 43 yards. David Griess caught three passes for 53 yards and Sam Verhulst had two snags for 26 yards.

Northwestern's Smith and Bartman had 16 carries each for 116 and 108 yards respectively. Bloemendaal completed 18-24 passes for 239 yards and three touchdowns. Byker caught seven balls for 99 yards and Walker had six catches for 124 yards.

Seth Vande Voort had seven solo and nine assisted stops and Josh Nollmeyer had four solo and three assists. Vanoy Harris had three solo and five assisted tackles and Jon Gardner had a quarterback sack. Raymond Cleveland and Aaron Floen each had an interception. Northwestern's Jordan Carlson had five solo and five assisted stops and forced two fumbles.

Dordt finishes the year 0-9 in the GPAC and 1-10 overall. Northwestern is 7-2 in the league and 9-2 overall.
