Dordt College Women's Volleyball vs. Dickinson State

(Sioux Falls, South Dakota) The Dordt College Defender volleyball team lost a 3-1 decision to the Dickinson State (North Dakota) in pool play at the NAIA Region III tournament. The Defenders drop to 1-1 in pool play and hold out hope for a three-way tie in their pool that would extend their season to Saturday, November 17.
Dordt caught Dickinson State flatfooted in game one and used their quickness to take a 30-24 win in game one. The Blue Hawks recovered for to take a 7-0 lead in game two and breezed to a 30-14 win. Game three had Dordt battle back to within 12-11 but a five point run by the Blue Hawks put them up 17-11 and Dordt never got closer than 19-16 and lost 30-18.
Game four was the most competitive of the match with Dickinson State taking an early lead but Dordt hung around for five ties, the last at 8-8. Dordt stayed within one at 13-12 and were down 18-17 before Dickinson State flexed their muscle to take a 23-18 lead and rode that to a 30-22 win.
Dordt was led by Kendra Potgeter's 18 kills while Kristin De Ronde had 13 and Larissa Veldhuizen put down eight. Emily Van Voorst had 41 assists and Dorinda Hibma had seventeen digs to pace the Defenders.
Dickinson State was led by their all-american Nancy Nyongesa's 21 kills while Elizabeth Castillo added 15. Katelyn Stiefel had 49 assists and Nyongesa had 16 digs for the top-seeded Blue Hawks.
Dickinson State improves to 30-3 with the win while Dordt is 32-9.
Earlier in the day Dordt beat Northwestern and is 1-1 in pool play.
Northwestern beat Dickinson State in their pool play match late Friday and forced a three way tie between the schools--all with 1-1 records. Dordt will now face Dickinson State in a one game playoff to 30 on Saturday morning at 10:00. The winner will then play Northwestern in a one game playoff to 30 at 11:00. That winner then advances to the NAIA Region III championship match at 7:00 against National American. The Mavericks advanced out of their pool with a 2-0 record and wins over Hastings and Morningside. There will be no consolation match in the tournament. The NAIA Region III champion receives an automatic berth in the NAIA National Tournament beginning November 28 in Columbia, Missouri.
