Dordt College Women's Volleyball vs. Columbia (MO)

August 26, 2000

(West Palm Beach, FL) In a loss that you can't feel too bad about, the 13th ranked Dordt College Lady Defender volleyball team took two-time defending NAIA National Champion Columbia of Missouri to four games today at the PBA Welcome Classic in West Palm Beach, Florida. For Columbia, losing a game this early in the season is something of a wonder, the 1999 team went 39 matches and 117 games before losing a game in the National Championship tilt with Fresno Pacific of California. The game one loss in the title match was the only game loss last year for the Cougars. In 1998 Columbia only lost four games en route to a 45-0 perfect season. For Dordt the 15-8 win in game three could act as a spring board into the rest of the 2000 season. Dordt is now 3-1, and were led today by Karen Netz's 17 kills, while Alisa Kooima lofted 52 assists. A.J. Poppema fired three service aces in the loss.
