June 1-5, 2026

Monday, 9 a.m. - Friday 1:30 p.m.

WORLD Journalism Institute’s (WJI) High School Camp offers Christian students a way to explore the world of journalism, digital storytelling, and communication from a biblical perspective.

Students will develop and discover media and communication skills that will not only benefit their future careers but also their daily lives.

Overview

Over five action-packed days of learning and fun, students will dive into reporting, broadcasting, and public relations through hands-on audio, visual, and writing projects. Along the way, they’ll explore how journalists, filmmakers, communicators, and everyday citizens shape public opinion and influence policy. Students will also be challenged to understand both how to create accurate media and how to consume media wisely in today’s confusing but influential media world. In a world crowded with fake news, students will discover how journalism and social media can be powerful tools for seeking truth and making a real difference.

This camp is held in partnership with Dordt University and WORLD and is led by Dordt's communication faculty who have years of industry experience in reporting, video storytelling and film, live streaming, and public relations. Students will get a taste of the college experience as they live in dorms on campus, eat in the cafeteria, attend classes, and connect with peers.

This camp welcomes high schoolers who have completed at least a year of high school meaning they have finished grades 9, 10, 11, or 12.

What will supervision in the dorms look like?

Each group of campers in the dorms will have a Dordt University student on their hall who will serve as a counselor.

Students will have keys to lock their dorm rooms and are strongly encouraged to do so while away. Dorm buildings will be locked at curfew and only leaders with the key card will be allowed to have access.

What will the roommate situation be at camp?

Roommates will be assigned, two per room. Due to safety protocols, students are not allowed to switch rooms during the week.

What if I have dietary restrictions?

Let us know before you arrive on campus, and the Dordt Dining staff will make sure to accommodate your needs. Please contact Becky.Ringsby@dordt.edu with any dietary concerns.

When do I check-in and check-out?

Dorm check-in will be 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Monday. The camp ends Friday, June 5, following a closing assembly where students can showcase their work. Dorm check-out is at 1:30 p.m.

When is the deadline to sign up?

The deadline to sign up is May 4.

If I have no journalism or media experience or related school activities can I still register?

Yes, this camp is for students of all skill levels. Whether you are the editor of your high school newspaper, or merely want to learn if a major in the communication field is right for you—you will learn and grow through this camp.

What if my student is flying to camp?
