A CONCEPT THAT BLEW MY MIND

In my science class, we learned about all the different communities in the world and how they all fit together. What happened in one, could affect other communities later. It was so neat to see the detail in the design of our world in this class. We talked about how we are all part of the big picture. What was really cool to me, was that we didn’t just learn about this in class, but we really got to experience this at Dordt. Dordt’s community is so strong and so fun to be a part of. Dordt teaches and encourages you how to be part of community after college as well. They teach us that we play an important part in God’s plan. They encourage us to live out our calling boldly and in all areas of our life. This was one of the most impactful things I learned at Dordt.

COOL THINGS I DID AT DORDT

I had a very cool internship helping plan a large fundraiser for a local nonprofit. I learned a lot from this. Another favorite part was all of the cool labs I got to do in my science class. We went beekeeping, hiking, and to a dairy farm—to name a few!

I was on Student government for two years. I loved getting to learn more about Dordt behind-the-scenes and help shape the campus in that way. Recently, I got asked to be on a strategic planning committee for my new home town and I think the experience I had on Student Government really helped prepare me for taking this role and getting to help my new community succeed, plan, and grow!

Honestly a lot of my other favorite memories were from hanging out with friends on campus or taking road trips with them!

OBSTACLES I'VE OVERCOME

College is a busy time of life, so I definitely learned how to manage my time better. Another obstacle I’ve been working on is learning to prioritize the important things in my life. Dordt helped me learn that, and taught me how to say yes to the best things.

WHO I WAS WHEN I CAME TO DORDT

I was super excited to learn and experience college at such a great place. I was nervous too, but that went away pretty quickly. I wanted to make the most of my college experience.

HOW DORDT IMPACTED ME

I think the person I’ve grown to be in the last four years is largely in part because of Dordt. I’ve learned so much about myself, my strengths, my weaknesses, and how I can use those to fit into the bigger picture. I’ve also learned the importance of being involved in community.

WHERE I AM NOW

I graduated in December, so I’ve been working at a small, critical access hospital in Rock Valley, Iowa. Our marketing department consists of me and my boss and we handle all internal and external communications. I am loving it here. It has been a crazy last couple weeks working in the medical marketing world with the COVID-19 virus! My husband and I moved to Rock Valley a few months ago and we are excited to get involved in the community.

WHAT I WOULD TELL PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS

Dordt is a great place to continue your education. Fully embrace your college experience at Dordt. You will learn so much about yourself, your major and other areas of interest, and you will grow in faith. You will be invested in by the faculty and staff. The relationships you build at Dordt will last a lifetime.

HOW DORDT HELPED ME DO MORE

Dordt shaped me as a person. My professors, friends, and mentors invested a lot in me during my time here. I am so grateful for my time at Dordt. I know I still have a lot to learn in life—my professors always encouraged us to be lifetime learners. But, I feel very prepared for whatever and wherever God leads me. I know I will face trials and challenges in my career and in life, but Dordt has helped strengthen my faith and educational foundation.
