A Concept That Blew My Mind
I did not realize how applicable the Bible is to modern day economics. Jesus doesn't specifically outline policies that we could use, but if we were to actually apply his teachings about taxation and government, and combine them with Paul's writings, we could solve many of our nation's problems.
Cool Things I Did At Dordt
I went to Puerto Rico the summer before my sophomore year as a part of my Spanish minor. It was one of the best experiences of my life and I'll never forget it. Being able to dive into the culture there and speak the language with the locals was an unforgettable experience.
Obstacles I've Overcome
I broke my ankle during a freshman year basketball game, and it took me almost 2 months to get out of the "boot." It was another month before I could fully run and jump again. If it wasn't for the fantastic trainers and the wonderful support of my peers and professors, I'm not sure if I would still be able to compete in athletics.
Who I Was When I Came To Dordt
I was a skinny basketball player who was excited to get as far away from home as possible. I had only a few friends from high school that I still talked to and I really needed some new friendships and new experiences.
How Dordt Impacted Me
It has had an incredible impact. My faith is stronger and I know how to apply it to contemporary problems. I have a strong bond with my friends, and I have learned an overwhelming amount from the strong role models I have in my teachers and in the community around me.
What's Next For Me
I will be getting married in June and I will be taking the CPA exam in the next year. I hope to have a full time accounting job. We will be staying in Sioux Center.
What I Would Tell Prospective Students
Dordt does an amazing job of making your faith matter. Whether or not your faith is a big part of your life right now, it will be if you spend four years at Dordt. Every class will challenge you, in a good way, to develop your own opinion on cultural issues, and enable you to apply Biblical principles to the world around you.
How Dordt Helped Me Do More
Because of the flexibility of my schedule in my senior year, I have been able to have an accounting internship at a firm in Orange City. Being able to apply what I have learned in class has been incredible. Being able to go and live out the Dordt standards in an actual workplace has provided more teaching moments than I could have imagined. I have come to realize how well Dordt has equipped me to live out the phrase, "Soli Deo Gloria," and I will be forever thankful that I chose to come here.
